Microneedling

What if we told you we could take advantage of your skin’s natural healing and rejuvenating response to treat skin tone and texture, wrinkles, scars, hyperpigmentation, and more?

Well, microneedling does just that! Suitable for every skin type, any time of year, microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin to promote the production of new collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer, smoother skin.

At Skin Science Dermatology in Toronto, we use a technology called Eclipse MicroPen® Elite to effectively treat most areas of the body including the face, neck, décolleté, abdomen, arms, and hands with minimal downtime and natural-looking results.

How Microneedling Works

Also referred to as collagen induction therapy, microneedling creates tiny perforations in the skin to initiate a natural healing response. As the MicroPen is applied to the skin, hundreds of superficial micro-channels are created every few seconds, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin. As a result, skin becomes smoother and firmer, and wrinkles, fine lines, scars, and textural issues are improved. The treatment also creates channels in the skin to increase the absorption and efficacy of topical products and treatments.

What does microneedling treat?

Is microneedling safe?

Microneedling is FDA and Health Canada approved, and extremely safe provided you’re a good candidate. Eclipse MicroPen Elite uses sterile, single-use surgical grade cartridge tips in order to maintain the highest level of safety. Treatments are typically well tolerated, and many patients compare the treatment to sandpaper gliding on the skin. Topical numbing cream can be applied for added comfort as needed.

How many microneedling treatments are needed?

Although you’ll likely see noticeable results after just one treatment, the true benefits of microneedling are best achieved with an ongoing series of treatments. Your medical aesthetician will work with you to develop a treatment plan suited to your needs.

Is microneedling right for you?

Suitable for almost every skin type, any time of the year, microneedling is an effective solution for men and women of all ages looking for a treatment for skin tone and texture, wrinkles, scars, or hyperpigmentation. Microneedling cannot be performed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you tend to develop hypertrophic scarring or keloids.
