Acne Scarring

As if acne isn’t bad enough, it often leaves behind physical and emotional reminders in the form of dark marks and scars.

What is Acne Scarring?

When acne is severe, your skin responds as it would to a wound, by forming new collagen fibers to repair the injury. However, it sometimes produces too little or too much collagen, resulting in scarring. For some, acne scarring can be prevented by avoiding unprotected sun exposure and the picking or squeezing of pimples and blemishes, while for others genetic factors make it an unavoidable reality. Not unlike acne itself, acne scarring can negatively impact self-esteem and confidence.

Symptoms of Acne Scarring

Acne scars can present in a variety of ways including discolouration, hypertrophic scars (thick, raised scars that stick out above the skin), keloid scars (where an overgrowth of scar tissue occurs), and atrophic scars (pitted depressions in the skin, resembling deep pores).

Although acne scars may not completely disappear, there are safe and effective treatment options available at Skin Science Dermatology to significantly improve their appearance. A thorough consultation with Dr. Geeta Yadav, a highly skilled dermatologist, will determine the acne scar treatment best suited to your unique condition.
